Benefits

Why Crowns & Bridges

Save Your Natural Teeth

A crown protects and preserves a damaged tooth so it doesn't need to be extracted.

Relieve Pain When Chewing

Cover cracked or sensitive teeth so you can eat comfortably again on both sides.

Restore Smile Confidence

Custom-shaped and shaded restorations blend in beautifully with your natural teeth.

Protect Surrounding Teeth

Bridges keep neighbouring teeth from shifting into the gap left by a missing tooth.

Durable, Long-Lasting Results

Well-made crowns and bridges can last many years with good care and regular check-ups.

Improved Bite Balance

Restoring the shape of a damaged or missing tooth helps your bite work evenly again.

Crowns vs bridges

What's the Difference?

Crowns and bridges do different jobs. We'll help you understand which one (or a combination) is right for your smile at your consultation.

Dental Crowns

Protect a single damaged tooth

A crown is a custom-made cap that covers and protects a tooth that's been cracked, worn down or heavily filled. It rebuilds the strength, shape and appearance of the tooth so it can function normally again.

Dental Bridges

Replace one or more missing teeth

A bridge uses the healthy teeth on either side of a gap to support one or more replacement teeth. It's a fixed, non-removable alternative to implants or dentures when the neighbouring teeth are suitable.

The process

The Crowns & Bridges Process

Every step is explained clearly and carried out gently, so you know what to expect from start to finish.

1

Initial Assessment

A thorough exam and X-rays confirm whether a crown, bridge or another treatment is the best option for your tooth.

2

Preparing the Tooth

Under local anaesthetic, the tooth (or the neighbouring abutment teeth for a bridge) is gently shaped so the restoration will fit snugly.

3

Taking Impressions

We take precise impressions using paste, putty or a digital scanner — capturing exactly how your restoration should be made.

4

Temporary Crown or Bridge

A temporary crown or bridge protects your prepared teeth and keeps them comfortable while the permanent one is being crafted.

5

Permanent Crown Fitted

Your custom crown is checked for fit, colour and bite, then securely bonded into place for a natural, comfortable finish.

6

Permanent Bridge Fitted

For bridges, the final restoration is fitted onto the shaped abutment teeth, adjusted for a perfect bite and bonded securely in place.

FAQs

Crowns & Bridges FAQs

Are crowns and bridges long-lasting?

Yes — well-made crowns and bridges are designed to be a long-term restoration. With good brushing, flossing and regular check-ups, they can comfortably last many years. Your dentist will show you how to care for them so they stay in great shape.

Are dental crowns or bridges obvious?

No. Modern crowns and bridges are custom-shaped and shaded to match your surrounding teeth, so they blend in naturally. Most people won't be able to tell you've had any dental work done.

Do I need a root canal before getting a crown?

Not always. A root canal is only needed if the nerve inside the tooth is damaged or infected. Many crowns are placed simply to protect a cracked, worn or heavily filled tooth. Your dentist will let you know at your assessment whether root canal treatment is required first.
